This is the first full-scale monograph about British artist John Craxton (19222009). A key figure in post-war painting who only authorised this book’s publication shortly before his death. Strict conditions were laid down by him no crops, bleeds or double page spreads were permitted! Sir David Attenborough, a close friend and passionate collector of Craxton’s work, was consulted from the outset and his enthusiam for the design styling was greatly encouraging as the book developed. It was published to coincide with the exhibition of Craxton’s work at Tate Britain in 2011. This important artist’s work was also exposed to a wider public during the year and was featured on BBC TV’s Culture Show, to mark the opening of the exhibition. It was shortlisted for Apollo Magazine’s Art Book of the Year.
