The author of the highly praised paperback A Crisis of Brilliance has also curated this exhibition at Dulwich Picture Gallery. Opening in June 2013 it’s the latest in their series of exhibitions covering aspects of 20th century British art. With the centenary of the First World War just around the corner, what better moment than this to re-appraise the effect that the outbreak of that terrible war had on the group of dazzlingly talented artists who were contemporaries at the Slade School of Art at that time. Each of the six featured artists experienced the war in quite different ways. This is an important exhibition worthy of considered reflection and I am delighted to have been asked to design the catalogue for Dulwich again.
‘Rarely, if ever, have I said ‘Wow!’ on entering an exhibition in the Dulwich Picture Gallery, but say it I did, last week.’ Brian Sewell
